One of the best ways to look healthy and a little more youthful is with a whiter smile and I just had my first Zoom Whitening Treatment done at Tysons Dental Spa in Tyson’s Corner. In my previous life as a part time television commercial actress and commercial print model, I was hired primarily because of my smile. The aging process can certainly take a toll on your smile because of thinning enamel from acid erosion and regular friction. Normal everyday wear and tear can greatly expose the yellowing dentin beneath your teeth.
Although, I’ve been maintaining my twice annual dental cleanings—even throughout Covid, I began noticing my smile wasn’t as bright as it used to be. The culprit was no doubt all the coffee and red wine I’ve been consuming as a result of Quarantine. I was overjoyed when Dr. Molina reached out to me with the proposal of visiting her at the recently opened Tyson’s Dental Spa for a cleaning and Zoom Whitening Treatment.
Zoom is one of the most popular laser teeth whitening procedures currently available on the market. It is a process by which a light-activated 25 percent hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth before a blue plasma light activates the solution. It is professionally applied and is a treatment available only in office visits.
I’ve used whitening trays in the past, but this was my very first time getting my teeth whitened using the Zoom technique. It was a relatively quick and simple procedure taking about 60 minutes including prep time.
Dr. Molina and her entire staff have the most beautiful energy. From the moment you walk into Tyson’s Dental Spa to the time of your treatment—there’s a relaxing, calm and positive energy flowing throughout the office. The Dental Hygienist Maya explains each step in a very friendly and inviting way getting you super excited to begin the process. I was provided with safety eyewear and a gentle mouthguard was utilized to apply the hydrogen peroxide. Prior to the Zoom treatment, a protective gel was applied to my gums to prevent any accidental bleaching to my gums.
The Zoom treatment was applied to my teeth in four batches of timed 15 minute mini sessions, with my Dental Hygienist Maya clearing the previous gel and making sure I was feeling good and that my teeth weren’t tingling or feeling too much sensitivity. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel any sensitivity at all! Like, none whatsoever! Tyson’s Dental Spa has viewing monitors in every treatment room with access to Netflix and I was treated to an hour of catching up on one of my favorite TV series while I had my treatment completed. I was also offered a blanket to cuddle if I so desired. However, since I’m going thru hot flashes—a blanket wasn’t necessary.
After my treatment, I was advised that I shouldn’t drink anything that wasn’t clear or rinse with colored mouthwash because it could “stain my teeth”. What? I didn’t want to ruin the results, so I was determined to comply for the two weeks recommended. I knew it would be a challenge, but it was worth it.
Maya handed me a mirror to have a look at my refreshed smile. I was happy, very happy! My teeth haven’t looked this white or this good since I was in my 20’s. In fact, I just realized at that particular moment that having a white smile is not just good for boosting your confidence, it also helps to make you appear younger! And who wouldn’t want that? My teeth were shades whiter than they are before I had the Zoom treatment. I refrained from eating pasta sauce, pizza, ketchup, blueberries, blackberries and from drinking wine and coffee for two weeks. The new color of my pearly whites made it worth it! I highly recommend Zoom Whitening for anyone who wants to brighten up a dull smile. I am also happy to refer Dr. Meghan Molina to those interested in finding a dentist who not only can help you maintain the health and wellness of your teeth, but who is passionate about helping you feel beautiful and comfortable with your smile cosmetically.
