Last night was the first D.C. Premiere of A Star Is Born, a new movie by Bradley Cooper, who wrote, directed and acted in the film. The movie co-stars Lady Gaga who, in my opinion, has been finally cast in a role worthy of her breathtaking performance. A Star Is Born is the fourth version I’ve seen in the last several decades. In all four versions of A Star is Born, the female lead stands by her man — despite substance abuse, emotional unavailability and manipulation, and selfishly left to carry on alone without the “love of her life.”
We all know what a talented actor Bradley Cooper is and how talented Lady Gaga is as a singer. But, to hear just how amazing Bradley Cooper can sing and to see just how great Lady Gaga can act gave me goose bumps! I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga’s music and the movie is worth seeing for her musical performances alone. I won’t give you any spoilers, but I do recommend going to see this movie.
I was invited to the first DC screening, held at AMC Georgetown. There was buzz that Lady Gaga was in town and so I dressed accordingly. I wore a white top and silver jeans with lucite platform sandals and lots of eye makeup. Before the movie began, an announcement was made that Bradley Cooper would have a Q&A after the screening.
The Q&A was led by George Cooper Stevens Jr.— an American writer, author, playwright, director and producer. He is also the founder of the American Film Institute, creator of the AFI Life Achievement Award and the producer of the Kennedy Center Honors. Some highlights of the interview included:
Bradley Cooper’s confession that he wasn’t intimated at all to sing in front of Lady Gaga. He also gave us a little insight into how he performed live in front of a crowd of Willie Nelson fans for the first song in the movie. And he mentioned that he’s interested in directing more films in the future.
A Star Is Born hits theaters nationwide October 5, 2018.
