GLAMSQUAD is an on-demand, app-based beauty provider delivering professional and affordable hair, makeup and nails services to your home, office, hotel, or wherever you may be. With personalized, one-on-one consultations and a signature range of inspirational looks, they offer their clients the full celebrity-experience, helping them look and feel their best. Beauty services are done in tandem and take up to an hour.
I was recently offered the opportunity to experience GLAMSQUAD’s hair and make-up services in preparation to attend a very important event, High Tea in Whoville—the 8th annual event at the Ritz Carlton benefitting Thearc. This fantasy-filled Sunday afternoon tea features adventurous delight for the entire family. All proceeds benefit the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), located east of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC. For over 11 years THEARC has provided children and adults living in underserved communities access to quality, free and low-cost educational, health, music, dance, art programs and social services. THEARC is home to nine of DC’s best nonprofit organizations. The community’s support builds bridges and families!
My eight year old daughter Ella and I were offered blowouts and I was also offered a professional make-up session. My family and I were on a staycation and I requested that the GLAMSQUAD arrive at our hotel.
Three women dressed in all black uniforms with the GLAMSQUAD logo arrived perfectly on time. They were friendly, energetic and happy to style us. I had shampooed my hair and Ella’s prior to their arrival. The company requests that you have dampened hair prior to their arrival for blowouts.
My hairstylist’s name was Candace, Shon was assigned to do Ella’s hair and Annette was scheduled to do my make-up. They asked how we’d like to have our hair done. Ella wanted a simple blowout and flat iron, straight hair. I gave Candace free rein to do whatever she wanted to do with my hair. I have hair extensions and that wasn’t an issue at all. I really enjoy being surprised and discovering what someone else envisions for my hair and Candace did not disappoint. My make-up artist, Annette asked me a few questions and showed me a selection of make-up looks. She also asked me if I’d like eyelash extensions, to which I replied an astounding YES! What girl doesn’t want longer lashes? Candace and Annette worked in tandem and I don’t think there’s ever a time I’ve felt so completely pampered and luxuriated. They asked me if I “had done this before”. I guess they meant “hired GLAMSQUAD before”. I hadn’t. They laughed and said that I seemed “like a pro”. I told them I was just so happy to be pampered and cared for, it’s something I definitely don’t do enough of and something I desperately need.
GLAMSQUAD, founded in January 2014, is rapidly expanding. Amy Shecter, the company’s CEO believes that they can win business through their “chairside manner.” As a working mom who was a power user of GLAMSQUAD herself even before joining the company, she says the professionalism of their Beauty Pros is a key factor to the company’s success. Only 8 percent of the licensed professionals who apply for positions at GLAMSQUAD make the cut, and those who get hired must have the right personalities because they’re going into homes.
“Whatever we do, we have to do it with excellence,” she said. “Whatever we do we will do best in class.”
GLAMSQUAD truly is the “Uber” of beauty services and I’m hooked. I may never step foot into a salon ever again.
GLAMSQUAD is available in Washington D.C., New York City, Los Angeles and Miami. They are available 7 days a week from 7 AM to 9 PM.
